The Lafayette Huse Veterans Commission was called to order by Rodney Myers at 10:00 am. Dennis Hanson made a motion to accept the minutes from the April 16, 2016 meeting, seconded by Kay Phillips. The motion carried. Kay Phillips made a motion to accept the financial report, seconded by Dennis Hanson. The motion carried. Bill Lanham updated the commission that Eastern Concrete is going to donate 3 ½ yards of the 7 yards needed for the Sponsor Garden. Sonya Wood then presented a drawing of the Sponsor Garden. She did some research and it is more cost efficient to put a resin bench top on the benches. If the resin tops are used they also have a 25 year warranty on them. Kay Phillips made the motion to purchase the resin bench tops, seconded by Dennis Hanson. The motion carried. Bill Lanham discussed with the commission using a bonding sand to fix the bricks on the memorial that have started to settle. He feels using the boding sand would help firm the bricks in place. He will check pricing and update the commission at the next meeting. Dennis Hanson made the motion to take a picture of the Sponsor Garden once it is completed and send a copy to all the donors, seconded by Kay Phillips. The motion carried. Sonya Wood showed the commission the options of engraving the bricks or laser printing the bricks for the Sponsor Garden. Kay Phillips made the motion to engrave the bricks on the Sponsor Garden, seconded by Dennis Hanson. The motion carried. Sonya Wood discussed with the commission about purchasing regular maintenance items and how to purchase them. Dennis Hanson made a motion that that Sonya or whoever is running the Huse Memorial Sales office can purchase regular maintenance items that are $500 or less without getting approval from commission, seconded by Kay Phillips. The motion carried. The commission discussed the stone that would be laid on the benches. Bill Lanham said he would speak with Mark Reed and see if there was a town employee that could do the work. There being no further business brought before the commission, the meeting was adjourned.
